Following the adventures of a Chinese couple in exotic locations in South America, the new season of the documentary Top Land is broadcast on the video sharing platform Mango TV.

Zhang Xinyu, 45, and his wife Liang Hong, 43, used to be businessmen in Beijing, but in 2013 they embarked on a world cruise. This was recorded on his reality debut On the Road.

It proved to be a phenomenal success, scoring 9 out of 10 on review site Douban.

They went on to document their journey around the world and film their unique travel experience in follow-up shows to On the Road.

As their journey progressed, they began to feel a stronger sense of responsibility for the well-being of humanity as a whole, Zhang says.

For example, the Buddhas of Bamiyan in Afghanistan had been destroyed by war when they arrived in 2015, so they helped create digital images that were projected onto the remains of the original site at night.

In addition, they felt the desire to produce a new series to help expand the horizons of young Chinese people. In 2018, the documentary Top Land was released.

“I hope the documentary will allow children to see the colorful outside world and understand more about the cultural diversity of our planet,” Zhang says.
