New Delhi: The much-delayed admission season has finally begun as major central universities in Delhi have opened the process for admission to students in various undergraduate (UG) courses.
This year, the admission process in universities has changed as they have adopted the Common University Entrance Test (CUET) for admission to UG courses. While Delhi University earlier admitted students on the basis of Class 12 marks, Jamia Millia Islamia and Jawaharlal Nehru University had separate entrance tests for admission to UG courses.
Universities have abandoned the old practices of admitting students and have partially or fully accepted CUET from the 2022-23 academic session.
See how the admission process works at these universities.
In Delhi University, admissions are held in 79 UG programs in 67 faculties, departments and centers of the university.
Earlier this month, the university launched an online platform for seeking admission through the Common Seat Allocation System (CSAS)-2022. The admission process, which started on September 12, is in three stages: the first stage is to apply to the university, the second stage is to fill preferences and the third stage is seat allocation and admission. The second and third phases are currently underway.
Phase I began on September 12, Phase II. phase on September 26. However, both phases will remain open until October 10.
CUET results are required in the second phase. The university had earlier announced that it will consider the subject-based normalized scores as declared by the NTA in the CUET (UG)-2022 timesheets of the candidates.
The University will automatically calculate the merit score for each program as per the eligibility criteria and the candidate will have to confirm their scores before opting for the selection.
After the completion of the preference filling phase (second phase), the university will release the simulated provisional allotment list based on the CSAS-2022 allotment policy.
‘Allocated seat’ refers to the unique combination of ‘programme + faculty’. For example, a BA (Hons) in Psychology at College X is called an ‘assigned seat’.
Once a seat is allotted in a particular round, the candidate has to ‘accept’ it before the last date/time fixed for the given round of allotment.
The concerned college will then verify the eligibility and documents uploaded by the candidate. Once the faculty issues the consent, the candidate will have to pay the enrollment fee.
Based on the availability of seats arising due to rejections, cancellations and withdrawals, the University of Delhi may announce multiple rounds of allotment. The University will announce vacancies on its admissions website prior to each placement.
Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) offers around 10 UG courses, mostly BA (Honours) in Foreign Languages, and a total of 342 seats in various faculties and disciplines.
This year, admission to BA (Hons) in Foreign Languages, BSc-MSc Integrated Program and Ayurveda Biology and Certificate of Proficiency Programs for the academic year 2022-23 is being conducted through CUET (UG) 2022.
On September 28, JNU started the registration process for admission to its undergraduate programs through CUET. Registration will close on October 12.
The first admission merit list will be released on October 17, university officials said. Students will have a three-day window to lock down their spots.
The second list will be published on October 22, and candidates will be able to block their mandates from October 22 to 24. The third and extraordinary list will be published on October 27.
In the first week of November, students who have blocked seats will come to the university for physical verification.
The first semester of undergraduate students at JNU will begin on November 7.
Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI), unlike Delhi University, admits only 10 undergraduate courses through CUET.
In August, JMI opened the registration portal for candidates who want to enroll in these courses. The registration process ended last week.
The 10 subjects are: BA (Hons) Turkish Language and Literature, BA (Hons) Sanskrit, BA (Hons) French and Francophone Studies, BA (Hons) Spanish and Latin American Studies, BA (Hons) History, BA (Hons) Hindi, BA (Hons) Economics, BSc Biotechnology, BVoc (Solar Energy) and BSc (Hons) Physics.
The university plans to release the merit list next week, a university official said.
If vacancies remain in the first list, the following lists will be published. Selected students will have three days to submit fees and documents.
Even Delhi Government BR Ambedkar University will admit students in 18 UG programs through CUET. The University offers a total of 19 UG courses and admission to only one UG program will be through the Common Management Admission Committee (CMAC).
Ambedkar University offers admission to a total of 2522 seats divided into 1123 (UG) and 1399 (PG) programs respectively.
In mid-September, the university started the registration process for the UG programs offered by CUET 2022. Interested candidates can fill and submit the UG application form by October 12.
The tentative date for the first cut was announced on October 18.
