The latest Amex Trendex2 The survey found that 50% of adults say they spend at least five hours planning a vacation. To help travelers save time and get the most out of their trips, American Express travel consultants have put together three-day weekend itineraries for each of the most popular destinations for inspiration on the best places to stay, eat and do things to explore the local culture.
81% from Amex Trendex2 respondents agree that they want to maximize every hour of their travels, making the expert itineraries from Trending Destinations a valuable resource. Whether adventuring solo, exploring with a group of friends or spending time with the family, the itineraries have something for everyone, from finding the best churros in Mexico City and hanging out with koalas in Sydney to luxury spa treatments in Paris and exploring a maple forest in Vermont.
In addition, 88% of respondents agree that they wish their trips were longer. Platinum Cardmembers have a guaranteed 4pm late check-out benefit when they book a Fine Hotels + Resorts property through American Express Travel. Late check-out, one of the many premium benefits unlocked when booking with American Express Travel, gives travelers an “extra day” to extend their vacation. From New Year’s Resolutions to Summer Trips: 43% of respondents agree that they want to travel more as their New Year’s resolution and 50% of respondents have already started thinking about where they want to go on their next summer vacation in 2023.

Spend more for the ultimate getaway: 74% of respondents agree that they are more likely to spend more on travel in 2023 and 40% say they are willing to pay more for late check-out when booking accommodation.

American Express Travel’s 2023 Trending Destinations are selected based on global American Express Cardmember bookings through American Express Travel, looking at year-over-year travel growth between 2019 and 2022.

This Amex Trendex online survey was conducted by Morning Consult between September 30 and October 3, 2022 among a sample of 2,000 US travelers who have a household income of at least $70,000 and are defined as adults who frequently travel in plane at least once a year. . The interviews were conducted online. Full survey results have a margin of error of plus or minus 2 percentage points.
TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF THE FINE HOTELS + RESORTS PROGRAM
Fine Hotels + Resorts® Program benefits (FHR) are available for new bookings made through American Express Travel with participating properties and are valid for US corporate, corporate and consumer Platinum cards only.® Members and Centurion® Members (Delta SkyMiles® Platinum Cardmembers are not eligible). Reservations must be made using an eligible card and must be paid for with that card or another American Express® Card, in the name of the eligible Member, and that Member must be traveling on the booked itinerary. The total average value of program benefits is based on prior years’ bookings for two-night stays; actual value varies. Noon check-in and room upgrade are subject to availability and are offered upon check-in; certain room categories are not eligible for upgrade. The type of experience credit varies by property; the experience credit will be applied to eligible charges up to the amount of the experience credit. Advance reservations are recommended for certain experience credits. The type and value of daily breakfast (for two) varies by property; breakfast will have a minimum value of USD 60 per room per day.
