Reservations are required on Pacific Surfliner trains traveling between san diego e San Luis Obispo from November 23-28, 2022

ORANGE, Calif. , November 14, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — The Amtrak® Pacific Surfliner® will implement temporary service adjustments to safely handle an anticipated increase in travelers during the Thanksgiving holiday. Advance reservations will be required to travel aboard Pacific Surfliner trains and at the start of connecting bus service Wednesday, November 23 through Monday, November 28, 2022. Additional train cars and shuttle buses will be used to increase the number of seats available. However, customers are advised to plan ahead and book in advance to ensure available tickets.

During the booking period, the Rail 2 Rail program will be suspended; Metrolink and COASTER monthly passes will not be accepted on these dates.

Amtrak 10-pass and monthly passes can still be used. However, Amtrak Monthly Pass or 10-Ride Ticket holders must confirm each trip (train and date) in advance through the Amtrak RideReserve program when traveling between November 23 until November 28. During this time, 10-trip tickets can only be used by a single rider at a time.

Although reservations are required, passengers must travel on the train listed on their tickets. If travel plans change, customers must adjust the reservation prior to scheduled departure. This can be done online at, by phone at 800-USA-RAIL, or at a staffed Amtrak station.

Passengers should note that there is a temporary road closure in effect on San Clemente area due to road stabilization works along the shoulder. When traveling to or from San Diego Countya bus connection is required between Oceanside e Irvine. Connections are guaranteed. There is also a limited train service to San Juan Capistrano. Tips to ensure a safe and peaceful journey:

  • Cancel if you need: Pacific Surfliner tickets can be canceled with a full refund to the original form of payment without commission if canceled prior to departure.
  • Baggage: Bring two bags per passenger, measuring up to 28″ x 22″ x 11″ and weighing 50 pounds or less, on board for free. You can also bring two personal items on board. Checked bags are not available at this time.
  • Travel off-peak and arrive early: The busiest travel days are usually Tuesday, Wednesday and Sunday of Thanksgiving week. Morning trains usually have more availability than later trains. Customers are advised to arrive at the station 45 minutes before departure.
