Athens receives two awards at the World Travel Awards 2022 | Tech US News


Athens has won two important awards at the World Travel Awards 2022, which show the strength of the Greek capital in the global tourism market.

Athens has been crowned as Europe’s Leading Cultural City Destination 2022, and This is Athens-Convention & Visitors Bureau won the Europe’s Leading City Tourism Council 2022. The awards were announced at the Europe 2022 Gala Ceremony in Mallorca, Spain , on October 1, 2022.

The World Travel Awards are considered the Oscars of tourism, serving to recognise, reward and celebrate excellence across all sectors of the industry. The votes come from professionals working in the travel and tourism sector and from travelers themselves. This year’s voting process reached a new record with 2.3 million votes cast online.

The award naming Athens as the leading City Tourism Council in Europe 2022 is a testimony to the strategy of the city of Athens for the management and promotion of the city as a visitor destination. This holistic approach is paying dividends by increasing the number of visitors to Athens each year. The award also signifies the city’s upward trajectory in the global meetings industry. Athens ranked sixth in Europe and eighth worldwide for international association meetings according to the 2021 Annual Report of the International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA).
