The Owls boss will see his current contract expire at the end of the current campaign, but has spoken at length in the past about his desire to bring the club back down from League One – and how he has no plans to leave anytime soon.

Now approaching the final six months of his contract, he confirmed that there is a clause in his contract that will trigger an extra year immediately if met, and while he did not reveal the details of that appearance-based clause, he did say that “near”.

Speaking this week, Bannan said: “No, I haven’t had any talks… It will come when it comes. I’m just focusing on my football and winning the club.

“I am in my final year, but there is a clause in it that I get another year. I hope I can reach that limit and I can get another year.

“I’m sure I’ll be here next year… Unless something drastic comes, it’s time to strike. It is close.”

The 32-year-old already has nine goals and an assist for Wednesday this season and will be hoping to add to that tally against Shrewsbury Town this weekend.
