CONWAY, SC – The Coastal Carolina women’s basketball team will open the 2022-23 season on the road in Athens, Ga. on Monday, Nov. 7, as the Chanticleers take on Southeastern Conference rival Georgia. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 pm ET at Stegeman Coliseum.

The game will be the first meeting between the two teams in wood. Coastal was picked to finish 12th in the Sun Belt Conference in the preseason coaches poll.

ON THE COAST

After finishing the 2021-22 season with a 15-11 overall record and 4-9 in SBC play, the Chanticleers enter the season under the leadership of a new coach. Kevin Pederson. Pederson will coach in his 22nd season in general and his first at the front in Conway.

The Chants averaged 72.3 points per game while shooting 42.8 percent from the field and 29.2 shooting percentage from three-point range. Defensively, Coastal allowed 61.8 points per game and held opponents to 36.4 shooting percentage from the floor and 27.2 from behind the three-point arc. The Chanticleers won the rebounding battle by grabbing 45.9 boards per game while letting their opponents grab 34.1 rebounds per contest.

Coastal will return sophomores Arin Freeman e Angie Juste-Jean, who averaged 9.0 and 8.2 points per game, respectively. senior Deja Richardsonsophomore Jordyn Newsomesophomore Arielle-Vadrelle Belingae Brali Simmons all return after seeing significant playing time last year.

ABOUT GEORGIA

The Georgia Bulldogs return five players from the 2021-22 team that finished last season with a 21-10 record and finished 9-7 in the SEC. UGA’s leading scorer is Malury Bates at 5.1 ppg, while Zoesha Smith and Chloe Chapman are right behind Bates at 3.0 and 2.6 ppg, respectively.

As a team, the Bulldogs averaged 68.4 points per game while allowing 59.1 points per game while outscoring their opponents 42.8 percent to 37.8 percent from the field. Georgia averaged 40.6 rebounds per game while allowing opponents to grab 35.3 boards per contest.
