Chelsea star Kalidou Koulibaly is in stunning form ahead of linking up with Senegal’s World Cup squad | Tech US News

Chelsea defender Kalidou Koulibaly says Chelsea need to regain form after three consecutive defeats.

Chelsea defender Kalidou Koulibaly says their form ahead of the international break for the World Cup is not good enough and they will need to improve if they are to challenge for titles this season.

The former Napoli defender featured in the 1-0 defeat at Newcastle, which left Chelsea on four defeats in all competitions. New manager Graham Potter is racing against time to turn the tide, although he will be able to enjoy a mini-pre-season with half the squad not taking part in the World Cup.

Koulibaly, who has now joined the Senegal squad, admits missing key players is part of the reason it has been difficult over the past few days.

He told the club’s official website: “We have to be sad after the defeat at Newcastle. We wanted to get the three points, but it was a tough game.

“Newcastle played well, they played with a lot of intensity and it was difficult for us with all the injuries we have and the pressure they put on us.

“It was a bit difficult and we are sad to lose this game because we wanted more and we didn’t get it. We have to work hard because we are a long way from the top spot in the Premier League.

“We have to know that we are not in a good place. We have to keep working, keep believing. It’s hard for the fans to lose again because we’ve lost three games in a row and it’s hard for both us and them.

“That’s why we have to come back after the World Cup with a different mindset and mentality to win games and get points.”
