The Supreme Court on Friday directed all states and union territories to complete the second round of counseling for admission to postgraduate medical courses by November 16 and submit the data to the Medical Counseling Commission on the same day.

A bench comprising Chief Justice DY Chandrachud and Justice Hima Kohli said the central government can go ahead with counseling for NEET-PG (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test) after the second round of counseling by states and union territories is over. , 2022-23.

The court said states like Maharashtra can initiate the deletion process after the same is completed on behalf of the Centre.

“To ensure finality in the counseling process for NEET-PG, we direct all states and union territories to complete the second round of counseling by 6 pm on November 16 and submit the same-day data to MCC,” the bench said in the order.

“Counseling for the clearing round will then be conducted by the competent authority. The state of Maharashtra will start the state clearing round only after the completion of the All India Quota (AIQ) clearing round,” it said.

At the outset, Additional Solicitor General Aishwarya Bhati, appearing for the Centre, said that all states and union territories are here and they have no problem with November 16 as the deadline to complete the second round of state counselling.

This led to the issuance of the order.

The order was passed amid dismissal of a contempt petition alleging failure to adhere to the time limit for NEET-PG admissions.
