Defense of the capitals Dmitry Orlov has missed the last three games with a lower-body injury. Orlov has skated with the team in recent days and looks like he could be back on Sunday in Tampa Bay.

Tarik El-Bashir of Athletic reports that the Russian player was on the ice for optional practices Saturday and that Orlov will travel with the team on its upcoming three-game road trip.

The 31-year-old veteran defender has five assists in thirteen games this season. He is the Capitals’ second-most minutes-eater, getting 21:17 of ice time per game only surpassed by John Carlson at 22:21 per game.

Caps head coach Peter Laviolette called Orlov “day-to-day” since he was injured against Arizona on Nov. 5. In his absence, the Caps gave both Lucas Johansen and Alex Alexeyev their season debuts.

The team wrapped up its season at home against the Lightning on Friday and will now embark on a three-game road trip where they will again play the Lightning, Florida Panthers and St. Louis Blues. El-Bashir also reported that TJ Oshie, who recently skated by himself, will not be on the trip.
