Erik ten Hag acknowledged Donny van de Beek after Omonia’s win | Tech US News

Donny van de Beek has endured a difficult few years at Manchester United and the Dutchman seems less likely to break into the side with each passing week.

The former Ajax star joined United in 2020, but was restricted to just four starts in his first season and was sent out on loan to Everton for the second half of the second campaign.

It was expected that he could revive his career at Old Trafford this summer following the arrival of Erik ten Hag, with whom he thrived at Ajax.

Unfortunately for Van de Beek, that didn’t happen and he hasn’t featured since his four-minute cameo against Liverpool in October.

After Thursday’s 3-2 win over Omonia in the Europa League, Ten Haga was asked about Van de Beek, and the coach attributed the lack of minutes to injuries.

“Must be fit,” Ten Hag said Football diary after the match as shown above. “Obviously that’s his shortcoming. He’s been here for two-and-a-half years now and he’s had a pretty good pre-season.

“That’s when his chances will come. I think when he came on against Brighton he came on as a substitute, he did really well. But you have to be available.

“When you’re not available, you can’t get a place in the first eleven. Now he has to make sure he is fit and fighting for his position.”

Van de Beek has two years left on his United contract until the end of this season and if his situation does not improve by then, United will likely be looking for suitors.
