Dhanbad, November 5: Shahid Nirmal Mahto Medical College Hospital (SNMMCH) has denied admission to two students on reserved seats for the handicapped after their certificate was found to be suspicious.

This happened when the admissions during the first counseling were held under First Professional MBBS admissions between November 2nd and 4th. Jharkhand Combined Entrance Competitive Examination Board (JCECEB) has sent the list of 40 students from the state quota out of which 33 students have been selected for admission after the first counselling.

Notably, SNMMCH is authorized for 50 MBBS seats in which the state quota is 41, seven are CBSE and two are central candidates. Of the seven CBSE quota seats, only three were admitted to SNMMCH in the first counselling, while the list of two central nominees is yet to come.

Sources in the medical college said that a committee of four heads of departments found the students’ certificates suspicious during scrutiny and rejected them.

However, SNMMCH prof. is responsible for admission. (Dr.) Ganesh Kumar said that the certificates were not suspicious though they appeared disputed as the civil surgeon had filled the format incorrectly. Therefore, we have asked the students to come with properly filled certificates.

Prof Kumar further said that eight seats of the state quota are still vacant and will be filled in the second consultation scheduled to begin on November 7.

It should be mentioned that last year two students were refused admission to the first and second counseling due to suspicious certificates. The certificates appeared to have been transcribed and the admission cell rejected the students twice.

Sources in the health ministry said the JCECEB has already sent a letter to each admissions in-charge of medical colleges regarding the disability guidelines published in the Gazette of India. Therefore, it seems that the members of the supervisory committee strictly follow the guidelines.

SNMMCH has already established a supervisory board, which consists of FMT department heads dr. Jakka Sriniwas Rao, Ph.D. Sunil Verma (Biochemistry), Ph.D. Krishna Kumari (Physiology) and Dr. Makradhwaj Prasad (Anatomy).
