Former Premier League ace Southampton v Newcastle prediction | Tech US News

FORMER Arsenal defender Paul Merson has insisted he can’t see “anything but” Newcastle United winning at St Mary’s this weekend.

The Toon visit the south coast looking to make it four Premier League wins in a row, while the Saints need to bounce back from their latest defeat against Crystal Palace.

Newcastle have collected exactly double the points (24) of the Saints to finish fourth in the division, with manager Eddie Howe enjoying life at St James’ Park.

Last season’s meeting between the two sides was something of a grudge match after Ralph Hasenhuttl lamented the original postponement in the January transfer window due to Newcastle’s injuries.

New signings Bruno Guimaraes and Chris Wood then scored to give the visitors a 2-1 victory and justify Hasenhuttl’s concerns, which were shared across the Premier League.

Now Merson, who has also played for Portsmouth and England in a 20-year career, sees nothing but a comfortable victory for Newcastle.

“Newcastle are playing very well at the moment,” he wrote in his Sportskeeda column, predicting a 3-0 victory.

“They have gone eight Premier League games without a single defeat and their 2-1 defeat against Liverpool was the result of a late goal.

“I see nothing but a Newcastle win this weekend.”
