Take care of the urge to walk! Frommer’s travel editors have been big on their annual Best Places to Visit list, which includes destinations from around the world. After two years of domestic travel advisories, while struggling with understaffed airports, flight delays and high gas prices, they are (cautiously) optimistic about this broad list of cities, countries and regions on six continents.

The 15 destinations run the gamut from white sandy beaches to historic splendours. Some offer an alternative to the over-touristy regions: head to Italy’s Maratea coast, they say, which is 110 miles south of the famous and overcrowded Amalfi Coast. Some offer big celebrations – Lithuania’s Vilnius turns 700, for example. And some, including Mexico’s Yucatán Peninsula, will offer new and simplified ways to travel next year. The first phase of a $10 billion rail project, a “jungle train” route that will eventually link Cancun, Tulum, Praia del Carmen and Chichén Itzá, will open in late 2023.

Here’s a preview to tempt you. Find all 15 destinations, plus tips on what to see and do, at www.frommers.com/slideshows.
