Ricky Hatton is back in action in Manchester this weekend.

Ricky Hatton has revealed his admiration for Marco Antonio Barrera as he prepares for an exhibition bout with the Mexican legend this weekend.

Both fighters return to the ring in Manchester on Saturday night having put their friendship aside for a while in a contest that will favor older boxing fans.

At various times in the 2000s, Hatton and Barrera were frequent on the pound-for-pound boxing roster as their fighting exploits created many fond memories.

Barrera’s epic battles with Erik Morales, Naseem Hamed and Manny Pacquiao ensured he was a must-see attraction and Hatton is quick to point out the respect he has for the former world champion.

“I never thought it would be possible because he’s a real, true hero of mine,” Hatton told Sky Sports.

“If you’re a boxing fan and he’s not your hero, then you’re not a boxing fan.

“It’s going to be exciting but there’s a bit of professional pride because we’re both ex-champions, I don’t want him to come and beat me, I’ve no doubt he’ll say the same thing, so it’ll be good.”
