The Houston Holocaust Museum is hosting free admission on Human Rights Day, Saturday, December 10, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Lester and Sue Smith Museum Campus, 5401 Caroline St. Visitors can celebrate Human Rights Day, presented by the Perry Homes Foundation, by exploring the museum’s galleries and participating in family-friendly programming, tours and more.

Free admission includes access to HMH’s Holocaust, Human Rights, Diaries and Samuel Bak Galleries, along with admission to the featured exhibit, “HOPE: Stories of Houston Survivors.”

Guests can learn more about the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and human rights heroes such as Dolores Huerta, Martin Luther King Jr., Malala Yousafzai, Elie Wiesel, Harvey Milk and others in the Lester and Sue Smith Human Rights Gallery. Eight local human rights organizations will host booths, and a special program is scheduled throughout the day.

Guests are encouraged to participate in field trips, bilingual stories at the Boniuk Library, and arts and crafts for children with HTX Art. The Albert and Ethel Herzstein Theater will host a conversation with Dr. Holocaust survivor Anna Steinberger; a children’s magic show with second-generation Holocaust survivor Hy Penn, also known as “The Great Hydini”; and a performance by the Segundo Barrio Children’s Choir.

Human Rights Day is celebrated every year on December 10 – the day the United Nations General Assembly adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in 1948. regardless of race, colour, religion, sex, language, political or other belief, national or social origin, property, birth or other status.
