DAVANAGERE: More than 1000 students no BDT University College of Engineering sat on a dharna outside the institution in Davanagere and boycotted classes on Thursday to urge the authorities to remove several irregularities including their admission fee.
Students studying in 15 government engineering colleges in Karnataka pay Rs 17,500 per year as entrance fee compared to BDT College where the entrance fee is Rs 24,000. The college does not provide laptops to SC/ST students, the agitated students said. “We pay Rs 1,500 for internet charges per year but we can’t access it. Getting an internet connection is a matter of luck,” said one of them.
They said the institute was “sucking the blood” of poorer students.
They also demanded that the college return all eight MTech programs that have recently been withdrawn. The students handed over the memorandum to the principal and sent a copy to the VC from Visvesvaraya Technological Universitywhich includes a college.
