Domestic auto manufacturer Mahindra is reportedly planning to launch a 5-door model of the Mahindra Thar SUV in the country. The new Thar model is expected to debut at the Auto Expo 2023 in January next year where cars like the Maruti Suzuki Jimny 5-door and Force Gorkha 5-door will also be showcased.
Compared to the current three-door variant of the Mahindra Thar, the five-door model is said to come with a longer wheelbase. It may also have a straight tail light with a spare wheel at the rear. The LED tail lamps will be rectangular in shape. Also, the 5-door model will have a dedicated door for the rear seats, which means more space inside. However, there may be no change in dimensions.
It is also expected that the 5-door Thar SUV can offer more stability on the road than the 3-door model. The SUV is said to come with a stiffer platform, new penta-link suspension and a wider track. Compared to the 3-door Thar which is 4 meters long, the 5-door model will measure around 4.3 meters. For comparison, the Mahindra Scorpio N measures 4.7 meters.
The powertrain on the 5-door Mahindra Thar will sport a 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engine and a 2-litre mStallion petrol engine. Rumors also point to a 4×2 version of the car.
