In 2017, the Chiefs drafted Patrick Mahomes 10th overall. It turned out to be the smartest move they ever made.
During an appearance on “New Heights” with Jason and Travis Kelce, the MVP pitcher gave some interesting details about his experiences leading up to the 2017 draft.
Mahomes sat down with Chiefs head coach Andy Reid for about five hours to go over plays. Before that interview, he received some advice from the team’s then-offensive coordinator Matt Nagy.
Because Mahomes had to study the game ahead of time, he was able to meet Reid.
Later in the show, Mahomes told the Kelce brothers that he gave some inside information to Kansas City before the draft began.
“If you let me go 12 or less, somebody else is going to pick me,” Mahomes told the Chiefs.
This interview got a lot of buzz on social media.
“Best QB in the world,” said one fan. “I love this guy.”
“Pat is an amazing storyteller,” wrote another fan. “That show was amazing.”
“I love hearing every single story about the Chiefs maneuvering to get Mahomes in the 2017 draft,” tweeted a third fan. “I can never get enough.”
“Nagy might be a goat,” another Twitter user commented.
Mahomes has been sensational for the Chiefs over the last five years, throwing for over 22,000 yards and 180 touchdowns.
The Chiefs will remain contenders as long as Mahomes plays at a high level.
