Only emergency travel was suggested for Missoula as snowy, windy and icy conditions occurred | Tech US News

(Missoula Current) Following a snowfall warning sent over the emergency broadcast system in Missoula on Monday, the police department issued only an emergency travel advisory.

The level of snow on the ground in Missoula remains minimal, although a sudden freeze and forecast winds have made for dangerous driving conditions.

Road conditions kept emergency responders busy throughout the day.

“The Missoula Police Department is working closely with City Streets to sand the intersections,” the department said in a notification. “We currently have several road closures within the city due to accidents and extremely icy conditions.”

The National Weather Service in Missoula placed much of western Montana under a winter weather advisory on Monday. The snow and high winds are expected to continue into Tuesday morning, causing treacherous road conditions and difficult travel on mountain passes.

Winds are expected to gust up to 25 kilometers per hour tonight and with fresh snow on the ground, visibility will be difficult. Temperatures are expected to drop into the single digits Tuesday night.

Icy roads are already making travel difficult in Missoula.
