Oppo Reno9 Pro+ running AnTuTu with an underclocked chipset, still posted good scores | Tech US News

Oppo has confirmed that the Reno9 series will have a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset, although that is probably reserved for the Pro+ model. It is exactly this model that was found by the AnTuTu team, doing the tests a few days before its announcement.

The phone posted a total score of 1,094,959. That is pretty much the level with other phones with this chip has been achieved, but there is a surprise – the unit that ran this test has an under-clocked chipset. Maybe this is with the type of energy saving that affects the detection, maybe Oppo found a way to improve things.

The CPU of the 8+ Gen 1 ran its main core at 3.0GHz, mid-cores at 2.5GHz and small ones at 1.8GHz. An example of this chip has three bands of 3.2GHz, 2.8GHz and 2.0GHz, respectively. The typical 8+ Gen 1 phone got a score of around 1.1 million, the same as this one. We don’t know if the GPU is lower, but the score is pretty good for the chip.

Did Oppo find a way to make it lower (thus reducing power consumption and power consumption) without compromising on performance? If so, the 8+ Gen 1 will get a second wind in the face of the 8+ Gen 2 release. The announcement is this Thursday, so we’ll keep our ears open for any such action.

Anyway, the test unit packs a lot of memory – 16GB RAM and 512GB storage. This is in addition to Oppo’s teasers, which mention LPDDR5 and UFS 3.1.

It is a little worrying that the OS is listed as Android 12. A phone arriving at the end of 2022, especially the premium model, is expected to arrive with v13 out of the box. Oppo Reno8 Pro is running stable ColorOS 13.
