Qualcomm has just announced the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, and one of the main talking points is the chip’s potential for faster hardware. Today, Oppo has given us an insight into how the face will look on the smartphone.

The company has created the first shooter game called “Camp Guard” that shows the tracking capabilities of the smartphone, which can be seen in the beautiful video below.

Ray tracing is more useful than graphics, because it supports the physical reality of reflection and shadow, bringing the game closer to reality. Oppo started working on effects and visualization back in 2020 and finally decided to share its findings with Qualcomm. Both companies make better PhysRay Engine 2.0 driver for the beautiful appearance of the smartphone. The result is running Camp Guard at 720p 60 fps for thirty minutes at room temperature, powered by Snapdragon 8 Gen 2.

We can see in the live video that the military’s thoughts are happening on the oil tanker, something that could not be done until now on mobile phones – only PCs and gaming consoles. The shadow also changes according to the angle, instead of being a fixed geometric shape.

Objects that are not in front of the screen can also be made, thanks to Physically-Based Rendering textures, where even the bullet interacts with the light, making the image better. We can also see refraction in water, ripples, and different sources of light in different directions.

Oppo’s PhysRay Engine is available for developers and game developers, which should pave the way for the best mobile games in the future. One smartphone that will have the engine is the upcoming Oppo Find X, which is confirmed to run the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 when it arrives in 2023.
