PATCO is offering unlimited weekend rides with a new $18 monthly pass | Tech US News

Want to ride all night like Springsteen? You can purchase PATCO’s new monthly unlimited 30-day weekend pass that offers unlimited rides on the bistate transit line between 6:00 PM on Fridays and 11:59 PM on Sundays.

The PATCO Monthly Weekend Pass allows unlimited weekend travel between any PATCO station for 30 days after first use for a flat rate of $18.

The flat-rate weekend unlimited pass is a first for PATCO, which uses a zone-based fare structure. Typically, a round-trip fare between New Jersey and Pennsylvania costs between $2.80 and $6, depending on which stations are traveled to and from.

“PATCO is excited to offer unlimited weekend rides,” PATCO General Manager John Rink said in a statement. “It’s a great money-saving opportunity for our riders, and it comes at a great time when many families use PATCO to travel into town for events and holiday attractions.”

The pass comes as transit systems try to recover traffic lost in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic. Mass transit across the country has been slower to recover in the number of people than the level of vehicle traffic. In September, PATCO user numbers reached 47% of pre-2019 COVID-19 numbers.

Other agencies are using incentives and discounts to attract people, such as NJ Transit offering a discounted 20-trip FlexPass aimed at commuters with hybrid work schedules. NJ Transit also has a transit rewards program for tickets purchased that offers discounts with participating companies.

PATCO riders can also apply their monthly weekend pass purchases to the newly revitalized rider perks program, “PATCO Perks” to save at participating companies for traveling with PATCO.
