Redknapp credited Ward-Prowse with World Cup selection | Tech US News

FORMER Saints manager Harry Redknapp has named James Ward-Prowse as one of two England players who could be disappointed to miss the World Cup.

St Mary’s captain Ward-Prowse has narrowly missed out on each of the last two major tournaments.

After making the opening team for the European Championship last summer, the 28-year-old has decided this time for the World Championship in Qatar.

After poor form in the eight weeks before Gareth Southgate’s selection, younger Conor Gallagher was preferred in his place.

And while Redknapp – who was in charge when Saints were last relegated from the Premier League and is also a former Tottenham Hotspur and Portsmouth player – admitted it was “not a big surprise”, he feels for the 11-cap ace.

“Gareth has now named his team, such an exciting few weeks ahead. We are all looking forward to this World Cup,” he said in his BetVictor column.

“One or two, not big surprises, but one or two of the lads will be disappointed not to go. I think Ivan Toney will be disappointed. Ward-Prowse, I thought he might have gone,” he added.

“But mainly I think he’s pretty much picked himself, so it’s a team. I will tell you the team I would play for and the system I would play under.

“I’m sure Gareth will be playing a completely different system and probably a very different team, but that would be my team.”

Redknapp then proposed a center back duo of Jude Bellingham and Declan Rice, leaving Jordan Henderson and Gallagher as back-up options.
