As the #RiseToLead continues, we are ready to highlight Munswini Goyal, Head – Group Corporate, Finance & Treasury, M&M Limited. Her story speaks of passion and resilience, as she emerges as an inspiration for female leaders, and strives to break stereotypes. .

โ€œI had a typical middle-class upbringing with limited exposure to career options, but the core values โ€‹โ€‹of honesty, integrity, and hard work were ingrained and remained.

My love of numbers led me to Commerce and then to Chartered Accountancy. In my first job with the National Housing Bank, I was fortunate to be part of the team that worked on India’s first ever mortgage-backed securitization transaction. And it changed the course of my career. Over the years, I have worked with HDFC Limited and now the Mahindra Group in numerous roles in the Treasury and Finance field and have enjoyed them all. In the early days of my career, I used to feel excited closing big-ticket deals. At the Mahindra Group, working with companies across businesses and geographies has made me appreciate that size is relative โ€“ a small deal can actually be a “big deal”! Our focus is now on delivering value and bringing effective solutions, no matter how big or small the group company is.

When I started, there were very few women in corporate treasuries, but I grew with energy and action and never looked back. I believe we should continue to break stereotypes and push the envelope just as much. I’ve also learned over the years that instead of ‘finding’ that elusive balance, we should ‘create’ our own.

Over the 2 decades of my career, the financial markets have seen various turbulent times. Going through liquidity and other financial risks during periods of financial stress has made me realize that there is no substitute for good governance.

The Mahindra Future Shapers program has come at a critical moment. It has forced me to reflect, and I hope to be a more intentional leader from now on.
