Sheffield United key man accepts contract with club he ‘loves’ | Tech US News

The Republic of Ireland international has not played since the opening day of the season following a couple of injuries, but made his first start since his return in Saturday’s superb 5-2 win over leaders Burnley.

His return was timely for the Blades following injuries to fellow left-back Max Lowe and Rhys Norrington-Davies, who will miss the World Cup in Qatar after injuring a hamstring at Coventry City last month, could prove his experience and smarts invaluable for Paul Heckingbottom’s side as they look to continue promotion after the Championship break.

Asked if he would like to remain a member of the Blades beyond the end of his contract next summer, Stevens said: “Absolutely. It’s been a good six years, obviously there have been some ups and downs, but I’ve really enjoyed it. It’s a club I’ve loved playing for. I’m looking forward to the games and Bramall Lane obviously. Now I have to focus on my football and play again now.”

“It just makes you grow as a player and as a person,” Stevens added ahead of Tuesday night’s derby against Rotherham United. “It’s a good club, it’s a passionate club. The fans cheer you on when you win and boo you when you lose and that’s what you want. You want that pressure. That’s what you want to resist and that’s something , which this club will never lose.”
