The Hyundai Creta is facing stiff competition from the newly launched Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara and the Toyota Urban Cruiser Highrider. Over the next couple of years, competition will intensify with the entry of new models that are set to come out of the stables of Tata, Mahindra and Honda. Here are some key details of the three major upcoming Creta rivals.
Tata Curvv
In April 2022, Tata Motors unveiled the Curvv mid-size SUV coupe concept that will go on sale in the next two years. It previews the brand’s new ‘digital’ design language that will be used for Tata’s future cars as well. The carmaker has already confirmed that the Tata Corvette will be introduced with an electric powertrain initially, followed by the ICE version. The latter will face challenge from the likes of Hyundai Creta, Maruti Grand Vitara and Toyota Hyryder. If reports are to be believed, the Tata Curvv SUV could be offered with new 1.5L Turbo Petrol and 1.5L Turbo Diesel engine options. More details here…
Mahindra M 210
The domestic automaker will introduce a new Hyundai Creta rival sometime in 2024. The model, which will replace the Mahindra XUV500, will have an electric powertrain. Codenamed Mahindra M210, the SUV will share some of its design bits, battery pack and components with the Tata Curvv mid-size coupe SUV. It will be developed by the MADE (Mahindra Automotive Design Europe) team led by Pratap Bose. The M210 SUV will offer a traditional SUV-ish, upright stance and a more practical and spacious interior. New Honda SUV
Honda Cars India is planning to launch a sub-4 meter SUV and a compact SUV of around 4.2 meters length. The company’s Hyundai Creta rival is reported to make its world debut in the second quarter of 2023. For power, it may use an Atkinson cycle 1.5L, 4-cylinder petrol engine paired with two electric motors. The petrol unit makes 98bhp and with electric assistance it delivers 109bhp. It can also be made available with a 1.0L, 3-cylinder turbo petrol engine good for 130bhp and 200Nm. The SUV will have a CVT automatic gearbox and FWD system. More details here…
