TDOT halts lane closures during Thanksgiving travel period | Tech US News


NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WBKO) — Thanksgiving travelers won’t be delayed by road construction in Tennessee this holiday.

The Tennessee Department of Transportation will cease all lane closing activities on interstate and state highways in anticipation of increased traffic volumes throughout the state.

All construction-related lane closures will be in place from noon on Wednesday, November 23, 2022 until 6 a.m. on Monday, November 28, 2022.

While all lane closing activities will be halted, workers may be on site in some construction areas.

Long-term lane closures will also be in place on some construction projects for the safety of motorists.

Motorists are advised to drive safely and obey posted speeds, especially in work zones. Drivers convicted of speeding in work zones where workers are present face a fine of up to $500, plus court fees and possible increases in insurance premiums.

AAA predicts that in Tennessee, 1.2 million will take a road trip; an increase of 12,000 people over last year’s holiday and the busiest Thanksgiving since 2019.
