The IT industry has seen some unprecedented demand in the past two years due to digital transformation amid the pandemic, with many engineers taking on additional work in addition to their full-time engagements and as freelancers with various organizations. are working Some companies consider this moonshine process to be ethical, but others consider it otherwise. Q: As CFO, what is your view on Chandni?

Rohit Anand: Today’s generation enjoys working on different projects. It enjoys different experiences. We ourselves have a venture Begig.io, a platform, for people who don’t want to be full-time employees and want to be gig workers/freelancers instead. It is a necessity for today’s generation.

We want employees to be transparent at the same time. If they have engaged themselves elsewhere to hone their skills, they should disclose. This disclosure is mandatory. It should not be that they are busy with their office hours. We will ensure that areas such as privacy and productivity are checked before allowing employees to do so.

If someone wants to do a gig job and that person is disclosing it in a transparent manner and that doesn’t conflict with any of our internally set rules, we will be flexible in understanding..

Q: But how do you measure productivity and ensure privacy isn’t breached?

Rohit Anand: We have a lot of tools available to measure employee productivity. We have productivity tools that are developed way ahead of time. The team has built post-code tools around this. We’ll make sure everyone signs up for them. And if someone doesn’t make the required disclosures, we have our own methods of finding and taking action against such employees.Question: How many employees are currently working from the office? Will Tech Mahindra be asked to order work from the office to monitor employees more closely to check unethical cases of moonlighting?

Rohit Anand: We have 30-40% employees working from the office. We leave it up to the project managers and team leaders to decide the percentage of employees working from home and working from the office according to the needs of the project and ensure that productivity is not affected.

In direction, it seems logical to order work from the office, but we have to keep in mind the supply chain perspective. We are coming from 4-5 circles of tight supply chain environment. Even today, niche skills are not available in abundance in many areas. Also, to check volatility, we moved to Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities and set up offices there with the idea of ​​giving employees more flexibility. There is a complete culture of communication within the organization. So in this context, the idea would not be to retain the global mandate. The company will remain flexible.

Q: Tech M is working on a policy to allow moonlighting. Can you share more colors?

Rohit Anand: There will be a process of disclosures, and there will be a process of approvals based on certain conditions that are laid down internally, and based on that we will say yes and no to the arrangement.
