Mahindra Thar is in news again. The upcoming five-door model of the SUV has been spotted again. The latest leak suggests that the SUV may have a sunroof. While electric sunroofs have become popular in high-end vehicles, current variants of the Mahindra Thar don’t come with one.

But as per the images shared by Team BHP, the five-door Mahindra Thar may also bring a new feature. The test mule of the SUV shows a hardtop with shutter lines, hinting at the possibility of a sunroof with the Thar’s upcoming model.

It is known that Mahindra has been working on a five-door variant of the Mahindra Thar for some time now. The new Thar model is expected to debut at the Auto Expo 2023 in January next year where cars like the Maruti Suzuki Jimny 5-door and Force Gorkha 5-door will also be showcased.

The SUV is said to feature the same wheelbase as the Scorpio N. It may have a straight tail light with a spare wheel at the rear. As for the LED taillamps, it may offer rectangular-shaped taillamps. The SUV is said to come with a stiffer platform, new penta-link suspension and a wider track. Compared to the 3-door Thar which is 4 meters long, the 5-door model will measure around 4.3 meters. For comparison, the Mahindra Scorpio N measures 4.7 meters. The height and width of the five-door Thar vehicle remain unchanged.

The automaker is also expected to add a frameless soft top for the third row. It is said to be more spacious inside.

The five-door Mahindra Thar is rumored to come with a 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engine and a 2-litre mStallion petrol engine. Rumors also suggest a 4×2 version of the car.

The current three-door model of the SUV is priced somewhere in between. 13.59 lakhs (ex-showroom) onwards 16.29 lakh (ex-showroom). The upcoming variant is likely to be more expensive than the current model.
