Real Madrid will be heavy favorites when they welcome Celtic to the Santiago Bernabeu in the final Champions League group stage game of the season. Carlo Ancelotti’s side won 3-0 at Parkhead in the second leg earlier in the campaign, but that doesn’t mean Ange Postecoglou’s men are taking it lightly.
Celtic fans will remember that the Bhoys were in the game for quite some time. In fact, they outplayed Real Madrid in the first half, with Liel Abada and Daizen Maeda missing golden scoring opportunities before Los Blancos finally found the back of the net.
The man who scored for Real Madrid that night was Vinicius Jr. The Brazilian has turned into a superstar of late and even scored the winning goal in the Champions League against Liverpool last season.
He appears to have been impressed with what he saw from Celtic at Parkhead and does not believe their position in the table reflects their quality. According to the Daily Record, Vinicius said:
“I’m not sure Celtic’s position in the group reflects their quality. They gave us a tough first half in the first game and it was a tight game. In the end our quality showed but the way they played for 60 minutes I was confident , that they will collect more points than they have. Maybe they were just unlucky.”
Real Madrid superstar Vinicius provided a brilliant tribute to Celtic
Celtic performed very well in the Champions League and more than held their own. They should beat Shakhtar Donetsk, but they could also get results against Real Madrid and RB Leipzig.
What has let them down time and time again is their finish, which has been pretty terrible to be honest. Celtic have scored only three goals in the group stage so far, including one own goal. The other two shots were scored by Jota and Giorgos Giakoumakis.
Let’s see if Celtic can bring their A-game when they face Real Madrid, who also have a lot to play for, with top spot in the group still undecided.
