MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Coming off their second straight AAC championship and third overall, the Memphis Tiger women’s soccer team will make the trip to Saint Louis for the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Saturday afternoon.

“All the credit goes to the girls,” said the girls soccer head coach Brooks Monaghan. “We faced more adversity this year than in the last five seasons, and they put their heads down and found a way. We’ve been playing our best football the last few weeks and that’s how we win championships.”

Memphis (9-5-5) stunned the American Athletic Conference when they defeated No. 1 UCF in the AAC Championship semifinal game and got the game-winning goal of Shae Taylor in the 99′ over SMU to secure their spot in the National Tournament.

For the season, Mya Jones leads the team with seven goals while Jocelyn Alonso added five goals and six assists in his second campaign. The Tigers have lost just twice in the team’s final 13 games of the season.

The Tigers are making their fifth consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance.

Saint Louis (20-1) went a perfect 10-0 in Atlantic 10 play as it swept the competition during the A10 Championship for its fifth straight title. The Billikins are making their fifth National Tournament appearance in the last seven years.

“They are very good and there is a reason why they are ranked 10thth in the country,” Monaghan said. “They’re a very well-coached team and it’s going to be a battle. We will have to put a total of 90 [minutes] to give us a chance to win.”

SLU is led by Caroline Kelly, who finished the season with 13 goals and six assists, while Emily Gaebe and Emily Groark scored nine and eight goals, respectively. In goal, Emily Puricelli played and started in all 21 games for the Billikins while making 44 saves and allowing just nine goals.

Saturday’s game is scheduled for a 1:00 PM CT kickoff in Saint Louis. Coverage of the game will be available on ESPN+ and GoTigersGo.com. Tickets can be purchased HERE.
