Tom Brady almost retired at 27? The QB makes a Jarring reception | Tech US News

Last offseason wasn’t the first time Tom Brady considered retirement.

He was actually thinking, according to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback leaving the NFL almost two decades ago.

“When I was 27 years old, I almost retired from the game of football because of elbow pain,” Brady said in a video posted this week by the official TB12 Sports Twitter account. ” … I am now 45 years old and I am still here.”

To be clear, we’re talking about a promotional video where Brady uses his own experiences to motivate athletes and ultimately sell his product. So, take it with a grain of salt. But considering all that Brady has accomplished, that’s still a pretty terrifying admission from age 27.

Brady turned 27 before the 2004 season, his fourth start with the New England Patriots. At this point, he was closing in on his second Super Bowl title and third place in NFL MVP voting. It’s incredible to think the journey could end there, as Brady has since added five more championship rings to his collection — including one for that 2004 campaign — while cementing himself as the most decorated player of all time.

Brady is now in his 23rd season — Tampa Bay’s third after 20 years with New England — and is still playing at a relatively high level despite some recent hiccups for the Bucs. Players don’t last that long without a few bumps and bruises, but who knew Brady was pushed to the brink so early in his career. His retirement at such a young age would obviously change the course of history.
