Those in India can’t keep calm as they await a four-day long weekend courtesy of the Raksha Bandhan festival and Independence Day celebrations and if you, like us, have plans to travel or opt for a weekend getaway of the week, do not hesitate to point out that safety is a vital factor to consider when planning your trip? With the ongoing coronavirus pandemic and the recent cases of Monkeypox virus skyrocketing in the country, it is necessary to stay prepared so that you can keep unwanted nuisances at bay and thoroughly enjoy your mini-vacation.

In an interview with HT Lifestyle, Dr. Radha Chowgule Gupta, Dermatologist and Cosmetologist at Zarah Medical and Cosmetic Skin Clinic, listed the top 5 essentials to consider when planning your next weekend getaway to make your experience smooth and uncomplicated:

1. Mask – Covid-19 is not over yet, but many of us have forgotten this fact. We still have to be very careful with ourselves and our surroundings. The mask must be worn at all times when outside for our own safety. Wear the most protective mask you can that fits well and wears it consistently. Wearing a well-fitting mask along with vaccination, self-testing and physical distancing helps protect you and others by reducing the chance of spreading Covid-19.

2. Disinfectant – Take regular disinfectants or opt for one that covers the skin with an invisible, waterproof but non-toxic bionic shield for efficient hygiene and safety. The shield must remain active for extended periods and not lose its effectiveness throughout the day, be free of harsh chemicals, maintain the PH levels of the skin and keep the hands moisturized and soft. Make sure your sanitizer has been tested and proven to kill 99% of viruses and pathogens for 24 hours, is skin-friendly, non-toxic and is also very safe for children.

3. Umbrellas – Whether it’s a sunny day or a rainy day, an umbrella will always come in handy on a trip. Travel umbrellas are small, light and compact, making them the best travel companions for short and long trips. You can tuck it on the side of your backpack, in your car door, or in the bottom of your suitcase without it being a burden, often forgetting it’s there until the weather takes a drastic turn. The best part? They let you leave your raincoat at home!

4. First aid kit – Whenever traveling for a weekend getaway or a trip, one should prepare a bag with basic medicines and band-aids and other essentials. Be prepared for home emergencies such as scrapes, cuts and other injuries. It can also hold supplies to get you through disasters like a power outage or a snowstorm. Better safe than sorry.

5. Sanitary napkins – To maintain your hygiene while traveling, sanitary napkins are a must. Not only are they easy to use, but they also prevent unwanted infections by keeping bacteria at bay. Sanitary wipes also maintain the skin’s PH levels, keeping it healthy and hydrated. Given the diversity of uses, sanitary napkins are also environmentally friendly.

While you’re outside, it’s always a good idea to hydrate yourself enough and use sunscreen to prevent excessive tanning and skin burns. Arm yourself with these essentials and enjoy your summers without worries.
