Program duration:-

  1. Post Graduate Diploma (PGD) and MSc (MSc) in Petroleum Geosciences

Full time: 12 months. Physically with online video conferencing in real time (Mon

until Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.)

Shorter working hours: 18 months. In real time online (Monday to Friday from 17:00 to 20:00); and

Weekends (Saturdays, 8:00-16:00) Phys.

  1. Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Petroleum Geosciences
  2. 24 months.
  3. 36 months. Pounds to Naira

Method of study and examination:-

The mode of study will be a modular hybrid of on-site and online. Exams will be conducted on-site and online at the end of each module.

Admission Requirements for Post Graduate Studies (PGD) in Petroleum Geosciences:-

  1. Holders of a first degree from recognized universities with a minimum CGPA of 1.50 on a 5-point scale or holders of a Higher National Diploma from a recognized higher education institution with at least higher credit points in Petroleum Geosciences, Geology, Geophysics, Petroleum Engineering, Gas Engineering, and Geo-mining Technology welcome to apply.
  2. Holders of advanced state degrees from recognized higher education institutions with at least lower credit points in the above fields and have related experience in the oil and gas industry are eligible to apply.

All applicants of Nigerian descent residing in Nigeria must obtain a NYSC discharge certificate.

Admission requirements for Post Graduate Diploma (PGD) in Green Energy Geoscience and Asset Management:-

  1. Holders of a first degree from recognized universities or Higher National Diploma Certificates (Higher Credit) from recognized institutions in Science, Engineering, Technology, Social Sciences and Management with related experience in the energy industry are eligible to apply. Admission requirements for Master of Science (MSc) in Petroleum Geosciences:-

  1. Holders of undergraduate certificates with minimum CGPA 3.0 on a 5-point scale or Post Graduate Diploma (PGD) certificates with minimum credits from recognized universities in Petroleum Geosciences, Geology, Geophysics, Petroleum Engineering, Gas Engineering and Mining Geo-Technology are invited to apply .
  2. Post Graduate Diploma (PGD) holders with minimum merit from recognized universities in Petroleum Geosciences, Geology, Geophysics, Petroleum Engineering, Gas Engineering and Geo-Mining Technology and having related experience in Oil and Gas Industry are eligible to apply.

Admission requirements for Master of Science in Geosciences on Green Energy and Asset Management:-

  1. Holders of first degree or PGD (credit) certificates from recognized universities in the fields of science, engineering, technology, social sciences and management with three years of experience in the energy industry can apply.

Admission Requirements for Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Petroleum Geosciences:-

  1. Masters degree holders with a minimum CGPA of 3.5 on a 5-point scale from recognized universities in petroleum geosciences are invited to apply.
  2. Masters degree holders with a minimum CGPA of 3.5 on a 5-point scale from recognized universities in Petroleum Engineering, Gas Engineering, Geology, Geophysics, Petroleum Geosciences and Geo-Mining Technology and have related experience in the oil and gas industry are eligible to apply.

Application fee

A non-refundable application fee of twenty-five thousand naira (n25,000.00) for Nigerians and US$65 for Non-Nigerians should be paid online to the Center for Petroleum Geosciences (CPG) via Remita.

  2. Click on Miscellaneous and other payments
  3. Click on select service/purpose
  4. Click on the appropriate item/Center/Institute in the drop-down list
  5. Click the amount to pay and enter the appropriate amount
  6. Fill in other information on the page (such as name, email, phone number, etc.)
  7. Click Create Payment. This will redirect you to the deposit page.
  8. Print the page or copy the RRR number on the page and go to any branch of the bank and make the payment.
  9. To pay online, click on pay via Remit and follow the instructions on the page to start the application process.

Applicants can access the form online from the CPG website and follow the submission instructions.

Applicants may also collect the form and submit it in person or by courier to the Admissions Officer, Center for Petroleum Geosciences, University of Port Harcourt.

Important dates to remember (any changes will be communicated via email)

  • The completed application form must be returned to the Admissions Officer, Center for Petroleum Geosciences, University of Port Harcourt no later than Friday 18 November 2022.
  • The aptitude test and oral interview take place from 7 to 9 December 2022.
  • Accepted candidates will be notified and the names of successful candidates will also be displayed on the CPG website at http://cpg.uniport.edu.ng on Monday 12 December 2022.
