The Delaware Botanical Gardens at Pepper Creek announced that veterans who show military ID will receive free admission on Veterans Day, Friday, Nov. 11, in appreciation of their military service to the country. Other guests who bring food donations for the Food Bank of Delaware will also get in for free.

Ray Sander, DBG President, said, “We are grateful for all who have served our nation in uniform, and we also thank those in our community who recognize our neighbors’ need for food during this challenging time.”

Autumn harvest decorations, including the 9-metre DBG Sea Witch and Woodlands Discovery Trail with animal creatures, will remain on display until Sunday 20 November when the gardens close for the season.

“We are grateful for the past generosity of our guests who have donated food to the Food Bank of Delaware,” said Sheryl Swed, DBG Executive Director.

The list of foods needed includes: applesauce, cranberry sauce, oatmeal, cold cereal, pudding mix, canned pumpkin, graham cracker pie crust, canned gravy, rice, macaroni and cheese, mashed potatoes, stuffing, soups, mix for corn muffins, canned sweet potatoes and yams, canned peas and green beans, 100% fruit juice, hot chocolate, coffee and tea, and evaporated milk.

“It was a record breaking 2022 season and we thank everyone who visited and supported the gardens this year. We look forward to seeing you next spring,” said Swed.

Stephen Pryce Lea, DBG director of horticulture and education programmes, said: “I want our friends to know that we will have a big spring bulb display when we re-open on 16 March 2023. We are currently planting 60,000 new spring bulbs in the 2 hectare Piet Oudolf meadow garden. These new bulbs are added to the 84,000 bulbs already planted for a total of 144,000 spring bulbs in the lawn. We invite our neighbors to come back this spring for this wonderful new colorful display of spring bulbs.”

Located at 30220 Piney Neck Road, Dagsboro, DBG is open to the public from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Thursday through Sunday. Walk-ins are welcome.

Admission is $15 for non-members. Children under 16 are admitted free when accompanied by a paying adult.
