Both these turbo-petrol SUVs will return almost double-digit fuel economy figures in the city.

I want to buy an SUV worth around Rs 15 lakh (top model preferred). My preference is a petrol engine that drives great, is comfortable for people who are tall and offers 16-17kpl fuel economy. I have driven the Tata Nexon, which is not very exciting to drive, and my height – 6.1 feet is not comfortable for anyone.

Then there’s the VW Taigun, which is expensive – around Rs 18 lakh – though it’s full of features, has a modern cabin and is comfortable. The third option I tried was the Mahindra XUV300 TurboSport. Its cabin feels a little dated, though it’s comfortable with an engine that’s fun every time I press the accelerator. However, its features list is less than other cars in this range.

Autocar India says: We understand that none of the cars you’ve shortlisted are perfect for you, but we’ll go with the VW Taigun as it comes closest to meeting your needs. The Taigan is the most spacious of the lot with a decent boot and plenty of headroom for six-footers. In addition, Taigun feels excellent driving, and on the right road, will put a big smile on your face. As far as fuel economy of 16-17kpl is concerned, none of these turbo petrols will come close to giving you that. If you get double digit figures in the city, you should be happy.
